#MondayMotivation: The new power suit is your answer to spring's moody weather

accreditation

In the 80s, power suits for women were a symbol of emancipation, of equal payment and of sexual liberation. Women finally became bosses, and the suit, however traditionally masculine, became an androgynous dream.

Women owned it.

And continue to do so; evolving the way the suit is worn more than we've seen renditions of the #InMyFeelings challenge.

But it's also ideal for spring, resolving many of those wardrobe pickles we find ourselves faced with when the season has not yet reached a temperature equilibrium where we feel confident in not checking our weather app before getting dressed for potential cold fronts.

The sports bra, very cropped top

Still go for your velvet or vintage-looking corduroy suits, but pair it with a cropped top for both a cooler feel and sports leisure appeal.

Shop:

Velvet blazer, MRP, R100.

The skirt suit

My favourite. You can either wear it with stockings or without. Or be bold, and remove your stockings later in the day as it starts to heat up, slipping your legs a proverbial refresher mint.

Oversized blazer, no top

I've always loved this look, but it was always more reserved for tailored blazer-wearing.

The bike shorts suit

The latest activewear item to plop itself straight into everyday smart casual wear, stretchy pants worn with a blazer and a belt bag is the new normal.

The lightweight suit

Go for linen or a breathable material that will keep you covered but still cool.

Shop:

Linen-blend jacket, R 799, H&M.

CR.CAPSULE collection, cotton-linen blend jacket, R2499.
