Serena Williams, Nike and Virgil Abloh keep serving us aces as they re-imagine fashion on the tennis court
It is quite exciting that Serena will be returning to the court after she opened up how she was suffering from postpartum on her Instagram page a few days ago. She has now shared a picture of her looking fierce with the caption 'Queen'.
According to Vogue, Serena, Nike and designer Virgil have collaborated on some unique outfits for Serena's return to the U.S. Open.
"The look consists of a black one-shoulder dress with Nike’s logo, accompanied by Abloh’s signature quotation graphic, with a full tulle skirt," according to Vogue. Furthermore Serena will wear "customised NikeCourt Flare sneakers and sport an Abloh-designed jacket while off court".
What does this mean for fans? According to Vogue there will be a limited edition of Serena's "dress, jacket, and two Nike The Ten sneaker styles inspired by her look will be available at select Nike locations in the United States beginning in late August".
According to an article by InStyle, Virgil was inspired by Serena's spirit which he tried to embody in the collection. "With Serena, we have one of our generation's most powerful, inspiring athletes as the muse," Virgil explains in a statement to InStyle.
And for Serena the most exciting part of this collection is the tutu on the dresses, "I have never worn a tutu. Every girl loves a tutu, or at least I do! It’s always been my dream to wear a tutu, and I can’t wait to wear it on court," she tells Vogue.
It's the new power suit and we want one. Especially as streetwear and athleisure aren't stopping their creep into the boardroom.
Here are the looks Serena will be sporting at the 2018 U.S. Open and they have a high-fashion feel we must admit:
This black one-shoulder dress looks really trendy.
The off-shoulder dress also comes in white.
This Nike x Virgil Abloh for Serena Williams jacket can be worn anywhere and not just on the court.
The Flare sneakers are unique to Nike Air Max and Nike Blazers and will be available at nike.com according to Vogue.
