Top model reveals she is intersex

Belgian model, Hanne Gaby Odiele has modelled for Vogue and Elle magazine, walked the runway for Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Givenchy and Prada in the past 11 years. She was also born with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome.

She recently spoke up saying she's proud to be intersex and wants to break the taboo.

Speaking to USA Today, she said “It is very important to me in my life right now to break the taboo. At this point, in this day and age, it should be perfectly alright to talk about this.”

She also wants to bring awareness to surgeries performed on intersex people at birth or when they are very young, before they can make the choice themselves.

Odiele’s husband and fellow model John Swiatek told US Today that he is very impressed with her decision to advocate for intersex children in order to give them an opportunity to make up their own minds about their bodies. Unlike the lack of information and options Hanne's family was given.
