How to maintain your car

accreditation
The AA's Rob Handfield-Jones gives his tips when it comes to general motor vehicle maintenance. Here goes:

  • Check your batteries: use Rob’s handy acronym for battery maintenance. S.C.W.A.T.T.: Secure, Clean, Water levels, Air holes, Terminals Tight. Or read this article.

  • Make sure your water hoses are in order: overheating is no joke.

  • Check your shock absorbers: you don’t want your next swerve to be your last.

  • Tyres: check them at least once a week. And make sure you know how to change a flat. Yes, really.

  • Seat belts: unroll them once every 6 months and make sure they are in clean and in good order.
