How to clean mirrors, glass & windows

accreditation
The only cleaner you really need to clean glass, mirrors and windows is… vinegar!

Shower enclosures
Save yourself a world of scrubbing by keeping a squeegee in the bathroom to go over the shower glass after each shower. Once soap scum and limescale have set in, melt them away with a squirt of vinegar solution – half water and half clear vinegar.

Extreme dirt can be attacked with two parts washing soda to one part vinegar or lemon juice. Apply this paste with a damp cloth, leave for 10 minutes then sponge off and rinse.

To stop a bathroom mirror steaming up, rub shaving foam over it, then buff off with a clean cloth.

Glass furniture and mirrors
Buff up in seconds with just water and a microfibre cloth. For very dirty surfaces, you might need to use some water diluted with washing-up liquid and applied with a sponge, then wiped and buffed dry with that microfibre cloth.

For really grubby mirrors, like those in the children's bathroom, mixing one part water with one part alcohol will get your mirrors and windows clean.

Windows
Windows will sparkle after a polish with vinegar and newspaper. Dilute your vinegar with water (roughly 1:4) and use a lint-free cloth or chamois leather to clean off grime. For a really good shine, polish with crumpled newspaper.

For exterior windows have a mild solution of washing-up liquid and water, sponge and squeegee to will do the trick. You can then buff them to a shine with newspaper or lint-free cloth.

DIY Tip:
When cleaning windows, mirrors or glass doors or vases add some rinse aid (dishwasher) to the rinse water - no streaks and a sparkly finish - and it smells good!
