L-Theanine, Green Tea

L-theanine is a naturally occurring amino acid that can be found in green tea. Knowing that green tea has an amount of caffeine, it may seem strange that it can be used with anxiety, but it’s exactly what it does.

L-theanine can affect your brainwave states; it helps you achieve greater focus and concentration, while it helps with your blood-pressure and stress. A study in the Elsevier Journal of Functional Foods has shown that a group of anxiety-prone subjects showed remarkable results when tested, after administering 200 miligrams of L-thenanine.

All of the subjects showed improvement in focus, concentration and delivery, and all witnessed reduced stress levels.

Finding such amount in just the tea can be a bit tricky, knowing that green tea has only about 8 mg of L-theanine, and black tea has around 25 mg. You can drink a lot of tea, but finding a right supplement can also be helpful.

It is important to keep in mind that every natural remedy carries different properties and different benefits, so you might have to spend some time searching for the right one

Valerian

Described by the ancient Greeks, this natural remedy is well known for its great abilities to positively affect stress, anxiety and insomnia. It influences brainwaves, and it has some sedating properties which anyone should have in mind before consuming.

It works great as a stress relief and mild sedative when combined with chamomile or lemon balm. It has quite a distinctive smell, so it’s better to consume it in a form of a capsule or tincture rather than in a form of tea or essential oil.

Experts from Happy Healthy Wellbeing Centre say its applications are various, but mostly used to help chronic insomnia problems, and high stress issues by influencing the GABA neurotransmitter in the brain. This neurotransmitter is the one responsible for relaxation and lowering the stress levels.

Passion Flower

It looks amazing, and it has even better healing properties. Passion flower is another one of those plants that have both stress-relieving and sedating effect, like valerian, which should be taken carefully.

Used by Native Americans to treat insomnia, it has various great effects, from stress and anxiety relief to lowering agitation and depression. It is also commonly used in treatments with patients going through withdrawal.

When consuming passionflower, you should always contact your physician, especially if you’re using any other type of medication, natural or not.

There are several natural anxiety remedies you can choose from, and these five are just the ones we selected as most testified about.

It is important to keep in mind that every natural remedy carries different properties and different benefits, so you might have to spend some time searching for the right one that will suit your needs and match your symptoms in the best possible way.

There are a lot of ways to learn about natural remedies, but if you really want to try some of these solutions, you should contact your doctor and your naturopath.
