Finger paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Iris Scott have been collected by the likes of Coca Cola, Microsoft and the Children’s Hospital of New York.
Scott is the first artist to launch finger painting as a legitimate art medium by painting strictly with her fingertips.
The New York artist has dedicated her talents to this long overlooked art form since 2010.
A pair of surgical gloves and high-end oils is all that Scott requires to create artwork previously associated with child’s play.
Commenting on the origins of her work, Scott told Cover Images: “In 2010, at the age of 26, I was painting with oils and brush, and simply ran out of clean brushes but didn’t want to pause painting to go clean them.
“So I told myself I would just ‘finish up’ with a bit of finger painting, but within just a few strokes of thick yellow paint applied with fingertips I realised I’d been limiting myself with brushes.
“Wow this new way of oil painting had advantages? So, I dove in, and decided then and there to work exclusively with fingertips and the rest is history.”
Collectors will have to pay a pretty penny for the original works which fetch a hefty price upwards of $40 000 (R5,6 million) and are shipped worldwide.
Renderings of motion-filled shaking wet dogs have featured on Reddit multiple times. Her work has also been featured in Forbes, Barron's, Business Insider, USA Today, NowThis, CBS New York and American Art Collector.
