This new app is like uber for home repairs

accreditation

Finding someone reliable to fix your leaky sink is now as easy as picking up your smart phone, choosing someone to provide the service you’re looking for and booking it.

getTOD is an app created by four Cape Town based entrepreneurs and allows users to connect with service providers who meet their particular need using location based tracking and supplier availability in real time. You don’t need to waste time sorting through pages and pages of service providers on Google and calling them all for a quote and then waiting days for them to come and attend to your issue.

So how does it work?
It works  in much the same way that Uber does: the user logs their need on the application, while sharing their location and requirements, and a service provider in the area who is ‘available’ on the service will accept the job. The user can then track the service provider’s progress until they arrive at the job, and, once the job is done, can then pay for the service through the application’s secure payment functionality via a pre-loaded credit card. getTOD works with a strict standardised price per hour per category. Which means there are no nasty surprises when the bill comes.

Is the app user-friendly?
It’s very easy to navigate around the app and barely takes any time to input all your information, which is always a big plus. If you have your GPS location activated, the app finds exactly where you are and, depending on the service you want, tells you exactly where the nearest service provider is. I like that there are also pictures of the service providers alongside their names so you’ll know exactly who to look out for when they come to attend to your problem. Once you’ve selected a service provider, the app gives you an estimated time the person will take to get to you, estimated cost (which shows up once you’ve selected a problem), and a section where you can input any extra instructions for the service person on arrival.

When can I access these services?
The getTOD team offers an insured service to consumers and provides twenty four hour emergency services seven days a week.

Is it safe?
Background checks are performed on all service providers who are also screened before they join the application, to ensure they meet getTOD’s high standards.

Clients are able to rate the service they receive from the supplier, giving other potential users a quick insight into the experience they can expect from the service provider that accepts their call for help through the application.

Is it available across South Africa?
The app currently only services the Cape Town Southern Suburbs, Atlantic Seaboard and Cape Town CBD, but it will soon cover more areas in Cape Town, and will expand to other regions in South Africa during the year.

The getTOD app is free for download and available for both iPhone and Android.
