14 clever ways to organise your wardrobe

accreditation

Organising one’s wardrobe is for most a daunting task.

Keeping it organised is even more of a challenge. Here are some practical and affordable solutions that will help, if you put these items in the right place!

To do list for the season

1. Start by emptying your cupboards

Throw everything out. You’ll be surprised how many items you didn’t wear during the last season, simply because you didn’t see them.

2. Regroup by category or colour

There are different ways to organise your clothes, but keeping similar types of clothing together is the obvious choice. Some people prefer organising clothes by colour.

3. The right hangers for you

For a uniform look, use one colour and style of hangers in your wardrobe. If space is tight, use daintier hangers. Special scarf and belt hangers also keep things tidy.

4. Organise your drawers

Drawers become messy easily. Drawer organisers are available in different sizes, but if you are on a shoe string budget, use old shoe boxes for clothes, ice trays for jewellery, or cut PVC piping for round compartments.

5. Layer drawers vertically

Don’t stack T-shirts in drawers, rather fold them small and pack them vertically for easier viewing. This will also save space.

6. Store shoes in old wine cartons

Save space and extend the life of your shoes by storing them in separate compartments. Put an old wine box to good use.

7. Instant extra shelving

Investigate ready-to-use storage solutions, such as this multi-purpose hanging shelf which you simply slide onto an existing shelf.

8. Pool noodles to keep your boots upright

9. Use shower curtain rings to save space on a hanger

Hang flimsy clothing items, such as petticoats or scarfs, in a row on one hanger by using shower curtain rings.

10. Store in clear containers

Store items for a different season in a clear container, this will make it easier to find.
