Vancouver Island

The Pacific Rim’s hidden gem was the perfect getaway for Shay Mitchell to spend New Year’s Eve last year.

An island off the southwest coast of British Columbia, Canada, its rainforests and untarnished scenery is what the actress wanted to rejuvenate and ring in the new year.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Perhaps no surprise here, Rio’s fantasy land of crescent beaches and parties often hosts A-list celebrities such as Penelope Cruz and Madonna, notes Travel Channel

Copacabana Palace and Fasano Rio are two of the most popular hotels that have hosted the Rolling Stones, Madonna and even the Obamas.

Recent guests have included Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, says the Daily Mail, while Hotel Santa Teresa’s bohemian vibe has drawn in high-profile guests like Amy Winehouse and Alicia Keys over the years, both of whom stayed in the largest suite 160 square meters which comes with a telescope for spectacular star-gazing.

The islands of Hawaii

Jessica Alba described her family island break last year as “epic” and also revealed on Instagram that they had been staying at the five-star Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina in Hawaii, which is in an idyllic location close to Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, notes Hello!

The resort consists of 316 guest rooms and 55 suites, with rates starting from R8,000 per night and if you want a mountain view room expect to be set back by just over R200,000 per night for the penthouse suite.

French Riviera, France

Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow and J-Lo were all spotted cruising French Riviera’s golden islands last year.

Popular, dreamy hotels that are selected by these celebs include Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat and Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc.

Zanzibar

Top Billing presenter Chris Jaftha was swept away by the magic of Zanzibar’s crystal clear waters.

Bill Gates has also professed his love for Mnemba Island Lodge in Zanzibar, an exclusive, private island just 4.5 kilometres off the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar.

It’s renowned as one of the most romantic ocean destinations in the world. We can clearly see why.

Each of the 10 private beach bandas on Mnemba Island has a spacious veranda and is hidden in the shade of a tropical beach forest. You’ll also find a palm-covered walkway that leads to an en-suite bathroom with a shower and basin, and the thatched dining areas have splendid views of the beach coral reefs.

This is definitely on our travel bucket list.

Holiday homes where celebs vacationed – and where you can too

Pulitzer Mansion, Mountain Village, Colorado

According to AirBnB.com, Ariana Grande stayed in this sprawling rustic mansion last year. From an indoor pool to a bowling alley, this mansion will feel like your own private resort.

Cost: R133 861 per night.

Desert Oasis, Rancho Mirage, California

Little monsters, listen up: this is the palace Airbnb Lady Gaga decided to kick back in during last year's Coachella. It has a resort-sized swimming pool and was a "four-year labour of love".

The estate is only rented out for two months out of the year, so if this is where you want to be – at R127 487 per night – you better get cracking.

Gated Shawnee Estate, Kansas

It's where John Legend spent his time during his 2017 tour with his family and was so satisfied with his stay that he publicly thanked AirBnB on his Instagram account.

Cost: R127,487 per night.
