If you are lucky enough to be boarding a flight this Easter, Benediction Zubane, Head of Marketing at Mango Airlines shares a few tips that will come in handy when it comes time to pack your bags.

Flip flops or Wellington boots?

Do your research and make sure that you are packing to suit your chosen destination. We live in a country of extreme temperatures and by keeping an eye on the weather forecast it will help make you to make the right wardrobe choices.

Try rolling, instead of folding

You can fit more into your bag if you roll your clothes instead of folding them. This works better with lighter items of clothing and also helps minimise creasing which means less to iron on the other end!

Avoid trouble with the toiletries

If you are able to – try and purchase toiletries that are affected by the aircraft cabin pressure once you arrive at your destination. This could include aerosol products such as deodorants and creams in glass containers. Another trick is to decant your shampoo and conditioner into smaller bottles that take up less space; especially if you are going for a short stay. Always pack bottles in a sealed plastic bag to avoid damage to the rest of your bag should the lids pop off due to in-flight cabin pressure.

Carry on with your carry-on

Some airlines will stop you from taking on hand luggage other than your laptop and handbag. Some airlines however, offer you free on-board baggage, for example low cost airline, Mango gives you seven (7) kgs free to carry on-board. Remember to pack your valuables and a warm item of clothing in your carry-on luggage.

Always make sure you have researched how much checked luggage the airline allows. In a recent independent survey conducted by research house, Answered, it was found that 72% of leisure travellers indicated that 20kgs of baggage included in the cost of the air ticket was highly important.

Benediction Zubane, Head of Marketing at Mango Airlines says, “As one of very few low cost airlines, Mango includes 20kgs free of charge checked luggage for each of our Guests, both adult and child. This not only sets us apart from our competitors, but keeps us in good standing to those that matter most to us, our Guests.”

Security First

Airports will have a wrapping service available – costs differ per supplier, per airport, and per size bag. This is generally a good idea as it not only protects your suitcase and its contents, but it will ensure your bag remains securely shut should there be excessive turbulence. Also make sure you lock your bag or use a cable tie to seal it to prevent theft.

On the other side

Once you are at the baggage carrousel on the other end, always check that you are taking your baggage with you. Bags look the same and this will ensure that your holiday can begin sooner rather than later. A good idea is to label your bag with your contact details, and even better use a colourful marker to identify it.

Mango has recently added over 88 additional flights to these routes giving you even more reasons to take off with Mango!
