While most people think holidays cost an arm and a leg, a little research goes along way.

According to a number of travel sites such as travelstart , computravel and suretravel, it’s possible to have a week-long trip out of the country for R10 000 or less.

Below is a list of 5 destinations you can travel to that will cost you R10k or less.

Zanzibar, Tanzania

An all-inclusive (7 nights’ accommodation, return flights from Joburg and all meals, plus drinks and travel insurance) costs about R9 305, according to Travelstart.

The site also recommends that an average local meal costs R43 and a beer costs about R15, which all amounts to a total of R1 008 for three meals per day and seven beers for a week.

2. Phuket, Thailand

This beautiful tropical destination costs about R9 530,50 for an all-inclusive (7 nights’ accommodation, return flights from Joburg and all meals, plus drinks and travel insurance), according to Travelstart.

Thailand is a 30-day visa-free country, which means no visa admin prices apply.

3. Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

A three-night trip to the picturesque Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe could cost you up to R 7 144, according to Sure Travel.

Activities in this beautiful town include white-water rafting, safaris, nature and wildlife as well as multi-day tours.

4. Walvis Bay, Namibia

A four-night all-inclusive trip to sandy Namibia costs about R9 978 a person, according to Computravel.

Activities include Elim Dune walks, sundowner trips, quad buggy nature drives, hot-air ballooning, scenic flights and much more to explore the area's natural beauty.
