In a bid to attract more tourists (almost literally), the town of Brumanna in Lebanon is dressing its policewomen in a very unusual manner. While the female officers all wear shorts and black t-shirts, the male officers are all dressed in regular uniforms.
The mayor of Brumanna, Pierre Achkar says that “It could be sexy for some people or ordinary. It depends on your education.”
The policewomen say they get complimented on their beauty by citizens on a daily basis.
There has been much debate about the women wearing shorts and being seen in public as “sexy” police.
Brummana recruited policewomen. And they dressed them like that. Look at what their male counterparts are wearing. Are these women supposed to help keep the safety of the city or be the touristic attractions in it? pic.twitter.com/2pbOyncQJg

Broumanna’s traffic squad is meant to cause traffic rather than ease https://t.co/eBgHg0zhpm about having a leg up in sleazy race to lure tourists. #Lebanon pic.twitter.com/FSZ9hm1bFO

One of the few places in the world where you get to see cops in shorts. It's part of the Broumanna mayor's plan to attract tourists to the region. Unfortunately this uniform change is only for the women and not the men, which I think is unfair and sexist. https://t.co/CqYedOGs8A

Most of the women doing the job seem to be happy in their roles and think it’s a great way to drum up tourism.
But locals are divided with some of them saying that they appreciate the beautiful women policing their streets, while others believe it’s inappropriate.
