South Korea is offering a jail retreat as a getaway option for people in search of some peace and quiet.
According to a report on BBC, a former prosecutor decided that the perfect way for people to get access to complete solitude was to create a retreat that resembles and mimics jail life.
The idea stemmed from the fact that the lawyer, Kwon Yong-suk endured working more than 100 hours a week and wanted to find a way where he could spend time just switching off without any interruptions.
The result of this was a getaway facility where people could be booked in for two days and spend time in “solitary confinement” with almost no access to things that often distract them, i.e. technology.
It’s certainly quite a novel way of combating stress – but why resort to such drastic measures when here in SA there’s a variety of unique getaway retreats you can also unwind and be free to come and go as you please.

The Kagga-Kamma private nature reserve, Cederberg
The stunning reserve is situated in the Cederberg area and is wonderfully unique in that the accommodation offers you an up close and personal experience with nature with rooms that are almost embedded within 'caves'.
The reserve offers a myriad of things to do – and is the perfect getaway for nature lovers who want to star gaze, study rock art and hiking trails, to mention but a few.
What I wouldn’t give to spend a weekend here.
