UNIFORM: Most social clubs introduce a uniform so they look good in a group or stand out when they are in public. Muruge says the disadvantages of having a stokvel uniform is when members of the stokvel conduct themselves in an undignified manner. “The advantages of a uniform are that all members wear the same outfit. No one is over-dressed and behaves as if they are superior to others,” she says. Fashion and beauty expert Alexis Tshangana says uniform can be tricky. “Some styles will not fit or look good on everyone,” she says. Tshangana adds that if it’s possible, stokvels should do away with uniform and allow members to express themselves with their own style.
