The Covid-19 pandemic has had a lot of South Africans rethinking their work and looking for new ways of making extra cash.

We’ve compiled five innovative ways to make money that can be suitable for the employed and unemployed.

Use your hobby

You can make money out of something you enjoy doing. If you have a skill that is most likely to make you moola, this would be a great time to put it to use. It could be baking, dressmaking/garment alterations or fixing cars, there is always someone out there willing to pay for a service.

Teach English online

Not everyone has the luxury of internet access but if you do, you can enrol to teach foreign students English online. Asia is a big market for this.

Rent out a spare or backroom

When you have a room you don’t use, you could privately let people rent it or join the many others who offer their places to hospitality sites such as Airbnb. The site will charge you a certain percentage for a booking, though.

There are companies that don’t sell their products to the big corporates. They have a network which you can join as a distributor. It would be wise to choose products you can sell or an industry that speaks to you such as beauty products or homeware. Tupperware and Avon are some of the biggest suppliers in the country.

Having internet access can help you reach a world many can’t, so take advantage of online surveys. People actually get paid to answer questions about products and things. There are sites where you can sign up so you can get notifications when you have to participate.
