A luxurious spot for a staycation

Covid-19 has many people anxious. In a spin about safety, words like self-isolation and quarantine have become part of the daily vocabulary. Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has the money to apparently buy an island so he and his family can isolate until the global pandemic is over. Sadly, that doesn’t apply for the rest of us. But, if you’re lucky enough to work from home or isolate, why not consider a staycation? This way, you can enjoy a new environment, luxury furnishings, the art and tranquillity away from it all, and still be productive. Sounds amazing? I had the opportunity to do just that at the new Daze House Boutique Hotel.

It’s all about Africa

Daze House Boutique Hotel offers experience and indulgence under one unconventional creative roof. It is inspired by various countries in Africa, and has taken a unique twist to showcase them in the minimalistic decor and finishings. It has rooms from Namibia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania with rich textures and tapestry to signify their history. What makes it even more awesome is the handcrafted and hand-picked artwork and furniture from local designers and artists within the continent. I stayed in Ethiopia, and enjoyed the rustic yet contemporary take on the design. Might I add that the bathroom was to die for!

Hidden joys

The boutique hotel is quiet and understated. It has Wi-Fi, views of Joburg, a lush garden with a pool as well as ample smart TVs to binge-watch on your favourite shows on Netflix. It will allow you the peace and refreshing set-up to kick back, relax and catch up on work at a leisurely pace. Its owner Gabriel Leavell had an idea of making things different from the ordinary, and making an experience with space. He wanted to showcase different cuisines from various chefs around the continent.

Safety first

The boutique hotel also offers paints and sips, that have been placed on hold due to Covid-19. But, fear not, the sanctuary is fully kitted with sanitisers and strict measures to ensure a safe and comfortable stay.
