How did you prepare for your role as Amanda on Isibaya?

When I prepare for a character, I go back to the basics that I learnt in varsity. I go through the brief that I am given, and learn about the world that my character is in. That’s what I’ve been doing. I watch series, films, and work on the script over and over again.

What drew you to the show and character?

Isibaya’s track record speaks for itself. It has some of the most amazing performers and tells some of the most incredible stories. I’ve always wanted to be on the show and working with Bomb Shelter Productions again is like coming home.

Amanda was a no-brainer for me. I said yes immediately. I read the script, got to see her world and the way she speaks, and couldn’t wait to play her. She’s a sharp career woman and a great mom, but there’s so much more to her I can’t wait for viewers to see.

What can viewers expect from Amanda?

She comes in right when her soon-to-be ex husband is getting close to another woman. To make matters worse, her daughter is also becoming friendly with Phumelele. You can expect a lot of drama and a bit of power play.

What are some of the differences and similarities between Thembisa and Amanda?

She’s a career woman with style and loves her child very much. I’d like to think I fall under that umbrella. You’ll have to watch the show to find out the rest.

What five things do people not know about you?

1. I have an honours degree in Dramatic Arts from Wits University.

2. My first role, on a series, was a ditsy wardrobe assistant named Calypso on Home Affairs.

3. I’m obsessed with musicals.

4. My acting has been inspired by my parents. They have always gone after their dreams and still gave us a feeling of home. They’ve seen every single play. They even went all the way to Grahamstown for the National Arts Festival one year.

5. My favourite character to play before Amanda has to be Winnie Mandela in Stormpie. Currently, Amanda is my best character.

What were some of the highlights of portraying Amanda?

An amazing and supportive cast, crew, director, producers and channel has been the best part of joining Isibaya. They make me want to give more.
