In an interview with O magazine, former USA president Barack Obama shared the story of his first date and kiss with his wife, Michelle.

Barack shared that when he got a new job at a law firm Michelle worked at and found out that she would be his mentor, he was over the moon. “In the luckiest break of my life, ‘Michelle’ was assigned to be my adviser,” he said. “I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was.”

Michelle, however, wasn’t as impressed. The former first lady revealed to O magazine that she remained very sceptical of the former statesman, although Barack was adored by everyone in the office. “In my experience, you put a suit on any half-intelligent black man and white people tended to go bonkers. I was doubtful he’d earned the hype,” she wrote in her memoir Becoming.

Barack did not give up. “I asked her out. She refused. I kept asking. She kept refusing,” he recalled to O, sharing that his future wife would turn him down time and time again over the course of several weeks, claiming it was because she was his boss. But, after he offered to quit his job then asked her out again, she finally said yes.

And the couple went out on their first date, which included lunch, a movie, a stroll in the park, a stop at an ice cream shop and ended off with an incredible kiss on a park bench. “I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb. I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate,” said Barack.

“And with that, I leaned in and everything felt clear,” Michelle summarizes in her memoir.
