It has to top the list of most outrageous wedding requests – demanding guests pay an entrance fee if they hope to share in your special day.
This bride charged an undisclosed entry fee and took it a step further.
For any guests wanting to skip the waiting line at her wedding, there was the option of an exclusive guest list. To get on it, guests would have to ensure they paid the $50 (R725) fee in advance.
The bride-to-be’s cousin took to Reddit to explain.
“I’m a 19-year-old student, I don’t have a lot of debt, but I can’t be throwing my money around like I’m rich,” the anonymous user posted.
She went on to explain that while she and her cousin aren’t close, they do have a good relationship.
A week before the big day, the 26-year-old bride made the announcement and added that the money could be sent via Venmo, a mobile payment service.
“Once I read this, I was shocked,” the cousin continues.
“I responded asking why and she said she wanted to get the money she spent on her special day back.
“I told her I wouldn’t be able to come because this was outrageous and that I wish her well on her special day.”
The bride then contacted her cousin’s aunt, who called the student “cheap and rude”.
“My parents offered to pay for my entry, but I refused. Now everyone thinks I’m being ridiculous and cheap.”
Users quickly chipped in, siding with the cousin.
“Wow is she going to ask them to pitch in with the dishes too?” one user asked.
Another commented that the bride may have shot herself in the foot.
“She probably would have got $100+ (R1 450) per guest just through gifts and ‘recouped their losses’ if she hadn't said anything. Now she's going to lose guests and a lot of those that do come may consider the $50 entry fee their ‘gift’. She played herself.”
