How would you describe yourself?

I’m a family girl and lover of God. I love people. I’m talkative and protective of my space. Being a hopeless romantic best describes me and I’m a dream chaser, too. In fact, I don't stop dreaming and believing, but I am intentional about being grateful and content at all times.

How did Aneno Nail & Coffee Bar come about and how did it grow into a viable business?

The business started as a mobile service. I’d travel to clients’ homes to do their nails. I was pushed to start doing this because after beauty school, I had no experience and few establishments are willing to hire an inexperienced person. The dream was and still is big but I knew I had to start somewhere.

Over time, the demand grew and that’s when I started making plans to open a nail bar as I needed assistance. I added the coffee bar because I wanted to incorporate something I love, which is coffee. I officially launched the business in November 2017.

With nail and beauty bars on the rise, what makes Aneno different?

I believe in brand building. My vision for Aneno has always been clear – excellent nails done at an affordable rate and in a beautiful space. I call Aneno the ‘dream factory’ – we don’t just do nails but offer you an experience. I want everyone who enters our doors to leave feeling like they can go after their dreams.

What was the biggest challenge you encountered when starting your business and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was hiring the right personnel, this is still a challenge but experience is steering me in the right direction. I've had to invest, and still continue to invest, in staff training to ensure they become excellent. That comes with losing some clients in the process. Also, because the beauty industry is growing, staff retention is a challenge most salons are faced with. ?

What are some of the nail trends we should look out for this spring?

Dried flowers are a definite win this spring. I mean, spring is all about new life. Bright colours such as yellow, orange and even turquoise are a must. Ombre will never get old – instead of keeping it traditionally French, add vibrant colours to it. For the simple girls, pastels are a must.

Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

·      Do something you’re passionate about – the passion will fuel you even when things get tough.

·      Be financially smart.

·      Be innovative and unique. Don't imitate what the next person is doing.

·      Take care of every client.

·      Have a vision for the month, year and years to come – it should be a long-term game and not about instant gratification.

·      Believe in yourself, love people and serve with a joyful heart. ?
