This pair of soulmates died just hours apart.

Bob Johnson (88) from Minnesota in the US was diagnosed with cancer six months ago and was being cared for at the St Peters hospital, Metro reports.

Shortly after, his wife Corrine (87) fell ill with congestive heart failure and was admitted to the same hospital as her husband.

The couple married when they were in their teens and had been married for 68 years.

Corinne died on 24 November, Fox 8 reports.

A week before she died, the elderly woman kissed her husband and whispered, “I love you”.

“When mom passed, they pulled the curtain between the two beds. He just stared at the curtain,” said Beth Kinkeade, one of the couple’s seven children.

According to the family, Bob started crying when he heard the news that his beloved wife had passed away.

Bob’s health then deteriorated and 33 hours later he died, even though doctors expected him to survive for a few more weeks, Today News reports.

“As soon as Mom died, he went downhill and died in a day,” their son Brent revealed.

Brent says his dad always put others’ needs first.

“So it was only fitting that in the end he waited for mother to go first, and then he passed away too,” he said.

Bob and Corinne tied the knot in 1951 and raised their seven children on the Norseland Eastview Farm in Minnesota.

The couple have 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, according to their obituary.
