Why acting?

To be quite honest, acting chose me. Back in Grade 9, I didn’t know which career path to take until a senior at my school told me about dramatic arts. I leaned towards that as it sounded like something I should be doing.

What’s your fondest childhood memory?

When I was young, my dad and I would jog together around the neighbourhood. It started with him helping me before athletics season began at school, then it became something we’d often do together.

How has it been portraying Khensani on Giyani-Land of Blood?

Playing Khensani is interesting and exciting. I loved that she and I have a lot of similarities; her kind spirit is something I truly love. Her decisions are sometimes questionable; like forcing herself to marry someone to save her parents. I’ve never been in a situation like that, where I had to force myself to do something so life-changing. I’m learning a lot every day about acting, and about myself by portraying her.

What have you learnt about yourself through your character?

That I can actually work well under pressure. Acting’s not easy or glamorous as it looks – it’s a job where you have to be fully present.

What is your dream role and who would be with you in the cast?

It would be an action-packed role, where I’d do stunts and all those action movie things. For some reason, I haven’t really thought of who I’d like to play alongside, but I know South Africa has capable actors, whoever I am cast with, I am sure it will work out just fine.

What is the one thing you can’t leave your house without?

My cellphone.

Who is the most dialled person on your phone and why?

My husband, we have to talk all the time.

What’s your get up-and-go jam?

I am seasonal with music. But now I’m playing a lot of Burna Boy, like the song, On the Low.

Are you a sneakers or heels kind of girl?

Heels. But I buy both.

On your off-days, what are we most likely to catch you doing?

Sleeping, especially if I had a lot of location shoots during the week.
