Question

Not sure who’s my baby daddy

I’m a 20-year-old who’s about to become a mom but I don’t know who the father of my baby is. I was four months along when I found out I was pregnant and I’d already broken up with my boyfriend.

The problem is I had a one night stand with a guy at work and now I’m not sure if he’s the father. I told my ex that the baby is his but he now wants a paternity test just to make sure he really is the biological father. I’m really scared – what if the baby isn’t his? I only had the one-night stand because I was so upset about losing him. Should I deny him the test?

Answer

Unfortunately the only way you can determine the paternity of your baby is through testing. What you need to do is to prepare yourself for the outcome. Denying your ex the test means you might have to raise the child alone as you wouldn’t know who the father is.

If you do the test then at least you’ll be sure of the child’s paternity. The father can then be present in the child’s life and you can co-parent, even if you’re no longer in a relationship. Do the test – for your child’s sake

Babycentre suggests that once the baby is born, your priority should be looking after the baby before anything else. The truth about the baby’s paternity is likely to come out, it is important to be psychologically ready for any results at this stage.
