White is the perfect colour for winter. It matches everything and can brighten up even the greyest of days. It's all about layering, fit, and combining different shades like champagne, egg shell, off-white and even beige.

If you're not sure where to start, here are the perfect picks to liven up your closet:

1. The perfect coat

Dark coloured coats are the norm in winter and gets boring. Shake things up with a long white coat to make the perfect statement. It breaks up the constant stream of basic black jackets and is great for layering over any outfit.

You can pull it off on a lazy Saturday afternoon on its own (sweater dress) as you curl up on the couch for a Netflix binge, or pair it with jeans for an afternoon lunch. If you’re not keen on pants, no problem. Keep things simple with an oversized sweater, slouchy boots and similar jewellery for a dinner date.

5. The classic skinny jean

Most people fear this item of clothing in white, scared of it getting too dirty or not finding the perfect fit. It's all about finding the right cut and fabric. For a smooth and

non-sheer pair, a mid-rise pair in a stretchy polyester or spandex blend is your best bet. Jeans that graze your ankles offer a neat slimming effect. When it comes to pairing it with other items of clothing, it can go with almost anything, whether monochrome or with a pop of colour. It all works.

6. The pencil skirt

White in winter can also look good for formal events with a simple pencil skirt. Plus, it’s slimming too. Accentuate your curves with a sturdy but stretchy fabric and then belt the skirt to create a nice waistline. Pair the skirt with a cosy sweater and over-the-knee boots.

7. The winter-proof dress

White dresses are not only for the warm seasons. Pair them with great outerwear pieces. It can be your favourite summer lace dress with a leather jacket and boots to toughen up the look or pair it with opaque tights or a great cape coat.

STYLE TIP: If you choose to rock monochrome this winter, mix and match textures such as linen, cotton, and other materials to elevate the entire ensemble. Add dimension to the look by mixing varying shades of white and cream or you can pull in contrasting textures like heavy denim and super soft cashmere for a cool and casual look. Also, when layering your white pieces, mix pieces with graphic text, asymmetrical hemlines and prints.
