Question

My boyfriend and I used to live together because he had no place to stay. But now that my sister has moved in with me,

he lives with friends. The problem is, we now communicate only on the phone and see each other for only a short time on weekends. I’m concerned because my previous relationship was like this and my ex cheated on me. I’m afraid that might happen again. What should I do?

Answer

The relationship you have now has the characteristics of a long-distance relationship. When your sister moved in and he moved out, you should’ve sat down and discussed how you were going to make it work once you no longer lived together. Your new circumstances shouldn’t change the way you relate to each other.

You and your boyfriend have to find a way to spend quality time together. Living with your sister doesn’t mean she always has to be home.

You can plan that she visits her friends or a relative so you and your man can have time together.

He also has to make a plan to ensure he gives you time and finds a way for you to be together. It can’t always be your duty to do that.

He could also try to find a place to stay where you know you’ll be able to visit him when you want to spend time with him. Both of you need to realise you have to give it your all to make it work.

Where there’s love, there’s always a way.
