Bragga has come a long way since her feature on Riky Rick’s Amantombazane remix. She opens up about her thoughts on the hip-hop culture scene and her must anticipated debut album, Nadia Naked:

What are your thoughts on the growth of hip-hop in Mzansi?

I feel like the genre has been going through many changes. There were moments when it was thriving and artists could monetise their value with various deals. But, now hip-hop has taken a shift and amapiano and gqom are in the forefront.

And what about female representation?

It’s getting there, but it’s not where it should be. How much things improve depends how hard we as women are working. I don’t think we should expect entities to put us on just because you’re a woman. It should be because you’re dope and your skills are undeniable.

What’s your pre-show ritual?

My mood starts way before getting backstage. It’s from the moment I put on my outfit and I start feeling myself and getting into the zone. Backstage, though, I always talk with my DJ to make sure we’re vibing and have the same energy. I also pray before performing.

Nadia 2018 vs Nadia 2019?

The year 2018 was really amazing. I had a lot of deals and just lived my best life. So far, 2019 has been a lot harder because I’ve been mostly working on my solo project. The album has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done – it has been really stressful. I think I’ll enjoy the rest of the year when I’m done. But, on the other hand, I’ve so I can enjoy the year after the album is released. This year has been a slap of reality on really getting things done. But I learnt how hard I can push myself.

Can you tell us a bit more about your album?

I’m being more vocal about who I am. With my EP, I made music for pure fun, whereas with Nadia Naked, I’m telling my story and my truth. I speak about my relationship with my family, my friends, ex-boyfriends and heartbreak. It’s a body of work where I’m letting people into my life.
