“Comfortable, minimalistic and inexpensive,” is how the 25-year-old beauty describes her style.

Over the past few years, South Africans have been at the forefront of  ever-changing fashion trends, and according to Kamo, we’re just getting started. She predicts more bold pieces and statement fashion choices.

“People are getting so much more creative, it’s exciting to see! In the past, celebrities and influential people would play it very safe, but ordinary South Africans are tapping into their creativity and it’s showing in how they dress,” she tells us.

“I suspect we’re going to see more bold colours and statement items. Really creative, out-of-the-box pieces and even hairstyles and makeup.”

Though very passionate about fashion, among other things, Kamo hasn’t always had it easy when it comes to finding her style. Like many women, she found it very daunting trying to find clothes she likes in the right size.

“Dressing for my body type and size was such a mission. I could never find anything in my size. People think petite women have it easy, but that’s not even close to reality. Often, you find that ‘small’ sizes in many stores aren’t small enough to fit me perfectly – what a mission!”

But after finally discovering her style and knowing how to dress her shape, Kamo is more confident and urges people not to take themselves too seriously.

“I think people should be more comfortable with their own style and not be so quick to follow trends. And young people especially should dress in their youth and not be too formal. There’s nothing wrong with looking your age, we shouldn’t be in such a rush to grow up,” Kamo says.

At the recent L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, Kamo wrapped herself up in the perfect pastel-blue statement dress and a pair of matching heels.

“I wanted to go for something bold but also very classy and aligned with the racing festival etiquette, the perfect conversation starter that remains minimalistic still.”
