For one Japanese man, this was precisely the case when he spent an entire year saving his fingernail clippings to turn them into an engagement ring, Daily Mail reports.
The unnamed man shared the process on YouTube channel Kiwami Japan. The clip was eventually shared on Twitter, leaving social media users reeling in disgust.
In the video he explained the process of how he turned his clippings into a piece of jewellery, Mirror UK reports.
Once he’d collected enough clippings, the man started by putting them into a blender. However, it didn’t give him the desired consistency so he ground them into a fine powder.
Next, he mixed the fine powder with water in a pan and then compressed the nail and water mixture and placed it in an oven for 90 minutes, standard media reports.
From there, he revealed the end product – a black sticky clay like substance which he moulded into a diamond shape and placed in a silver band.
Online users were shocked with one commenting, “That’s just flat out gross.”
“I believe I'm not the only one feeling disgusting,” another said.
"Nothing says romance quite like ground fingernails,” another added.
The video has been viewed over 200 000 times.
