The ritual requires the pair to consummate their marriage on their wedding night – while the family awaits them on the other side of the bedroom door to applaud them afterwards, Mirror reports.
As if that isn’t bizarre enough, they’ll also have to tear a piece off their bedsheet which is then sewn to a family tapestry owned by the mother of the bride.
The groom shared his concerns about the ritual anonymously on Reddit.
“I absolutely freaked and told her under no circumstances will I be doing that kind of thing in front of her whole family,” he writes in the post, which has since been removed.
“I think she’s also been texting her family about this because I received a text from her mother telling me that I ‘don’t understand the importance of family and tradition yet and this kind of tradition has been around longer than I’ve been alive’.”
Though his fiancée tried to reassure him about the ritual by saying they didn’t have to go through with it but could rather pretend, he was having none of it.
“I don’t want anything to do with this,” he writes.
