The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is looking to change that with their #BeMyValentine campaign.
Their tail wagging bachelors and sassy bachelorettes are ready for you to fall head over heels at first sight.
The campaign is in its second year and features dashing dogs and cute cats up for adoption looking for sponsorship to make their Valentine’s day a happy one.
Fundraising and Communication Manager, Marcelle du Plessis, says the organisation is always looking for fun new ideas to raise funds and this one just popped into her head.
“Valentine’s day has become an extremely commercialised event with people spending large amounts of money on gifts, chocolates and flowers,” said Marcelle.
“This year we’re encouraging people to allow a homeless pet to be their valentine by sponsoring them and showing them some love.
There are some stellar suitors awaiting sponsorship, and all of them come with a unique cuteness factor.
Mrs Jones is an adorable lass who hasn’t always had it easy.
“She was wandering around the streets. From what we’ve found out from the community the owner had continuously bred her to get numerous puppies. She’s just skin and bones but is friendly and happy to be loved,” says Marcelle.
Pinkie is another top pick. She’s all smiles now, but was found looking very skinny and with mangey skin.
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic is a veterinary council, NPO-registered animal clinic based in Khayelitsha.
Marcelle says she’d like to encourage members of the public to visit Mdzananda during the month of love to spend some time meeting, walking and giving extra love to their residents.
