Charlie Johnson, a registered nurse from the state of Arkansas, was diagnosed with cancer in April last year and started losing her hair as a result of chemotherapy, POPSUGAR reports.

She spoke to a friend Mandy Parks, who’s also a photographer, and together they came up with the idea to enlist the help of Charlie’s husband, Kelsey, while capturing the life-altering moment of him shaving her hair.

“We started talking about doing this photoshoot and I said to her, ‘Why don’t you be the one who takes your hair, not cancer?’ Luckily, Charlie had the same vision in her mind,” Mandy says.

She captured the gut-wrenching moment where Charlie sits in front of a mirror in a pink dress while her husband shaves off her curly blonde hair, Metro UK reports.

In the touching photographs, both Charlie and Kelsey are crying. Mandy shared the poignant images on her Facebook page along with a moving caption.

“I don’t know who needs to see this today . . . But this is what strength looks like. Let them know they’re not alone,” she wrote.

“Stand by them as they kick this like the warriors they are! Thank you to Charlie and Kelsey Johnson for allowing me to capture the pain, beauty and bravery it took to spread this message.”

The post has been shared more than 300 000 times with over 500 000 people commenting on it, herald publicist reports.

“I so needed to see this,” one woman wrote.

“I was afraid people would judge me because of my bald head. Deep down I was embarrassed but now I feel like a coward.”
