Electricity saving tips

Saving electricity reduces energy costs and the amount of carbon released into the air. A reduced demand for energy lowers the overall energy costs and will help more people enjoy the benefits. Energy is essential to life and all living organisms. Our energy choices and decisions impact Earth’s natural systems in ways we may not even be aware of. Let us learn to save energy, not just for our comfortability but also for the sake of Mother Earth.

Here are a few ways in which you can conserve electricity and save money:

TAKE SHORTER SHOWERS: The shorter, the better. In this manner you’ll use less electricity to heat the geyser and save water. You can do this by switching off the tap when lathering on soap.

INSTALL SOLAR WATER GEYSERS: Geysers use up the largest portion of your electricity consumption. With solar water geysers, you cut down on costs and save electricity that you can use in other ways.

GET RID OF THE DESKTOP COMPUTER: Switch from your old dusty desktop computer to a laptop. Not only will you save electricity, but you’ll also save a few bucks!

GAS IS CHEAPER THAN ELECTRICITY: Use a gas stove and heaters as they are more economical.

RECYCLE OR DONATE YOUR OLD TV: That big old box is taking up space, energy and your money! Get yourself a flat screen TV. You’ll save a lot in the process, perhaps even enough for that pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing.

HANG DRY YOUR LAUNDRY: Tumble drying your clothing isn’t necessary. Use the free sunlight and air at your disposal to dry your clothes.

TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONER: You’re forgiven during those insanely hot days. But other than those times, turn off the air conditioner, especially when you’re not in the room. This way, you save electricity and spare a few cents.

TURN OFF THE TAP WHEN BRUSHING YOUR TEETH: A lot of water and electricity is wasted when you brush your teeth with the tap on. Switch it off until it’s time to rinse your mouth.
