You might’ve heard her name many times when PR and marketing is mentioned, or even know about her and the brilliant work she’s done in her career.

Rorisang Setlogelo believes that while hard work and determination are key factors in ensuring success, travel adds an element that might just be essential for true contentment and genuine happiness.

We often associate travel with lots of expenses and stress, but Rorisang insists that if you plan accordingly and in advance, you’re taking the first step to what could possibly be the one of the best experiences of your life.

“Travel opens you up to a world with no boundaries, you can contribute so much to the world and its beauty,” the 37-year-old tells us.

Through work, visiting family and friends, and solo trips, Rorisang has been to many countries around the world, but visiting these eight places taught her a lot about herself.

In the past three years, Rorisang has been to Miami, London, Paris, Copenhagen, Italy, Amsterdam, New York and Kenya.

New York

“I went to New York on a girls’ trip and it was one of the best experiences of my life. We had so much fun and learned so much! We went to go watch Beyoncé perform on the coldest night ever, but when we saw her barely wearing warm clothes, doing her thing, we kicked off our granny ways and started dancing and singing along – and it was magical!”

“What also marvelled me was how true the saying, ‘the city that never sleeps’ is. People in New York are up and working in cafés as early as 7 AM. They go out and have fun, enjoying their city and just living. The balance in their lives is inspiring, and you realize that you’re no different to them. You’re just as capable, creative and brilliant,” she says.

Italy

Rorisang is also a big believer in solo trips and how beneficial they are.

“When I went to Italy, I had worked with a brand from there for over six years, but had never been physically there. So, I decided to book myself a trip and go there. We shouldn’t fear solo trips, you take in so much when you travel alone,” Rorisang tells DRUM.

Kenya

“Kenya is probably one of my absolute favourite places ever, it’s so beautiful and rich in culture. The people are possibly the greatest treasure; they’re so genuine and kind. I felt so much at home there, and with everything going on in our continent, it was such a pleasant experience being there and feeling accepted.”

With all the travelling she’s done, Rorisang says she’s become so much more confident and fearless. “In my language we say, ‘go thlapa mahlo’ which means to cleanse your eyes and gain a new perspective, see things differently. And that’s what happens when you travel; you realize how amazing you are. I learned that I am fearless.

Traveling alone forces you to be confident, to speak to new people who might not even speak the same language that you speak. I realized my own power and that I am able to get things done, to add value. I became quite bold and learned that I am world-class.”

Rorisang urges everyone to travel, especially young women. “You don’t have to pressure yourself, start with exploring your country, your continent and then take on the world. There’s so much out there, just waiting for you!”
