Mom-of-three Tammy Roberts (43) from Perth, Australia, decided to enter her first pageant last year.

Her daughter, Jourdyn (18), was on the verge of giving up on the competitions after she’d received negative comments from her peers at school, which knocked her confidence.

That that was when her mom stepped in. She decided they should both enter pageants so they could spend quality time together.

Tammy, a cheerleading coach, went on to win the Ms Galaxy Australia 2018 title despite being 20 years older than most of the other contestants.

“Jourdyn loved pageants but when I found out her friends weren’t being supportive, I felt like I had no choice but to enter myself to support her,” Tammy said.

“I wasn’t in competition with anyone, I was just there for Jourdyn and to experience something new.

“It all came very natural to me. I didn’t feel like I had to prove anything so I was just myself. I enjoyed everything.

“One of my favourite outfits was the eco-round where we wore matching red dresses. We chose these as [Jourdyn] followed me in my dance footsteps and I followed her in pageantry.

“It was a truly amazing experience. Our bond was strengthened and I got to see the world from her eyes.

“I loved being there for Jourdyn every step of the way and I couldn’t believe it when I won.

“My life has changed so much. I’ve been on TV and radio and I’d become a clothing ambassador for local stores.”

The glam duo also raised money for an Alzheimer’s charity – which was close to home as a family member recently died due to the disease.

“I was being mocked at school about the pageants so I felt disheartened to enter again,” Jourdyn said.

“My mom knew deep down that I didn’t want to give up, which is why she entered the competition – and I’m so glad she did.

“It was nice for us to switch roles. I felt like I was the mom giving her tips on how to do her hair and make-up.

“I knew my mom would win from the start because she’s so confident and pretty. She wasn’t fazed that the other women in her division were 10 years younger.

“She had it in the bag and being by my side throughout helped me achieve first runner-up. I’d never gotten that far before and previously only placed in the top 10.”

Jourdyn said some pageant contestants were shocked when they learnt Tammy was her mom.

“All the other girls couldn’t believe she was my mom as she looks so young and they wished they were able to do something like this with their moms.

“I feel lucky to have done this together. We raised money together and people really liked that we were doing this as mother and daughter as that made us unique.”
