Popular Moscow nail salon Nail Sunny took to Instagram to showcase their latest nail trend – an ant manicure.

In the video you can see the nail artist applying long acrylic nails to a client’s fingers before another plastic layer is added to create a hollow, Metro reports.

The ants are then picked up one-by-one with tweezers and inserted into the nail, which is then sealed with a small piece of plastic, according to the Revelist.

Although the salon assured its followers that no animals were harmed in the process, the bizarre nail trend still caused a stir on social media, Lad Bible reports.

“They’re breathing in the chemicals from the nail products,” one follower wrote.

“To think you could trap a living thing inside something so small sounds horrific and inhuman. I’m sure if you were in their position you’d be claustrophobic and it would drive you insane. Can’t believe some people can do that,” another follower added.

“When you go down the street you step on them without wanting to, without being conscious, but Nail Sunny [has done this] being conscious and although they released them later, they’ve taken them with tweezers, which could have killed them and to put an ant or any other bug inside a nail is horrible,” one follower said.

“I think people are taking it too far but the idea itself was just bad and for a really bad reason (style),” another added.

“I don’t think anyone should use any actual living creatures for fun and laughs and definitely not for aesthetics.”
