This grandpa just wanted to eat one more meal with his late wife.

A photo of an elderly man eating next to a memorial for his late wife at his granddaughter’s wedding has garnered over 150 000 likes and 18 000 retweets after being shared on Twitter, New York Post reports.

Sahrah Elswick, from West Virginia in the US, posted the touching image, tweeting: “Pawpaw sat and ate with mawmaw today at my wedding.”

The photo was met with emotional responses with people claiming that they were crying, FOX News reports.

“This is beautiful but also I could cry. One of the main reasons I’ve been so hesitant to actually go through a wedding is because my dad won’t be there to walk me down the aisle or give me away or do a father-daughter dance. It makes me so sad. Glad you could have her there somehow,” one user commented.

On her wedding day, Sahrah wanted to pay tribute to her grandmother who she affectionately called “mawmaw”, so she set up a rocking chair with pictures of her grandmother at the reception, Metro UK reports.

She added fairy lights and a note that read: “We know you would be here today if heaven wasn’t so far away.”

A user who attended the wedding shared her thoughts on the picture saying, “Your wedding was beautiful and this was the sweetest thing I’ve ever witnessed. I’m glad we captured this moment and I’m sorry she couldn’t physically be there with you on your big day, but she was definitely there.”

Other users were simply moved by the photo.

“I cried when I saw this picture,” one user wrote. “Most grandparents are the purest most loving souls and when you see them sad it just hurts you that much more.”
