A woman wanted to surprise her husband by getting her body back in shape with laser fat removal surgery, but tragically the mom of two died.

Luz Dary Silva (29) from Barrancabermeja in Columbia died after undergoing laser lipolysis and suffering complications.

Laser lipolysis sees localised fat deposits being surgically reduced and doesn’t use suction.

The victim’s sister, Nidia Patricia Silva, says Luz decided to have the surgery done because she wanted to surprise her husband who’s currently in Spain.

Luz reportedly paid 4 million Colombian peso (R18 000) for a procedure which was on offer at the Cardio Fitness Clinic. The procedure included removing the fat from her abdomen, hips and back as well as making her six-pack more defined and lifting her buttocks.

The day after the surgery Luz began suffering from diarrhoea and she was taken to the San Nicolas Clinic with low blood pressure. Her sister added that “her skin was black,” reportedly caused by bacteria.

She was then transferred to the intensive care unit of the Magdalena Medio Hospital but died three days after the surgery.

The results of her autopsy haven’t been released yet but doctors confirmed that the bacteria she had in her body had spread and they speculated this had caused her death.

The Cardio Fitness Clinic is certified by the health department to carry out the procedures Silva underwent. They released a press statement saying they are investigating the case.

The victim's children are seven years old and four months old.

The case is currently with prosecutors, but it is unclear if an investigation has been launched.

Luz is survived by her husband and two kids, aged seven and 4 months.
