A couple who fell in love despite not being able to speak each other’s languages have thanked Google Translate for their blossoming romance.
Chloe Smith, 23 from Wolverhampton, Britain, and her boyfriend, Daniele Marisco, 25 from Naples, Italy, met at a nightclub in Ibiza, Spain. But not only could they barely hear each other above the loud music, neither could speak a word of the other one’s language.
“There was something exciting about Daniele,” Chloe said. “The fact we couldn’t understand each other wasn’t a problem. We just clicked.

“I made the first move and asked him for his number because I just found him so attractive.”
The couple, who soon were inseparable, realised they could communicate by using Google Translate and watching videos with subtitles.
Now, two years later, Chloe and Daniele have learnt to speak each other’s languages to ensure their relationship lasts.
They live together in Streatham, London where Chloe is a make-up artist and Daniele is a barman at an Italian restaurant.

The pair shared their story to show others that relationships can work even when there’s a language barrier.
“Despite never having had a foreign boyfriend before I knew I liked him and I knew he’d learn one day. Sometimes you must do these things for love,” Chloe said.
“The more time we spent together the less we used Google Translate, and now it’s once in a blue moon when Daniele doesn’t know the name of something in English.”
The couple’s friends didn’t think their relationship would last and considered it “just a holiday fling”.
But the pair, who now love to communicate in both their mother tongues, said they’ve proved the doubters wrong.

“Chloe talked and laughed a lot but I didn’t understand. The only thing I understood was she was special,” Daniele said.
“We wanted to be together from the moment we met and that’s why we worked. She helped me learn English and I’ve helped her learn how to cook Italian food.
“We’ve shown any doubters that we’re meant to be. From the very start I had a good feeling about Chloe. She’s my soulmate.”
