What a sexy year this has been! Here are some trends that hit our bedrooms:
SEX SLING
It’s compact and can be hidden from sight – unlike a sex swing, which hangs from the ceiling. Instead, the sex sling is hung over a door before shutting it. It allows various positions for the person in the sling, while their partner stands as the person swings. Depending on the brand, the retail price is between R1 200 and R2 500.
KAREZZA
Originating from the Italian word meaning caress, karezza is a gentle and more intimate form of sex that doesn’t just focus on an orgasm as the end result. It involves touching, stroking and skin-on-skin contact. Those who practise karezza believe
that great sex should rather be defined by intense connection, bonding and relaxation instead of just orgasms.
VIRTUAL REALITY SEX
Instead of watching standard porn on TV or a computer screen, with virtual reality goggles you can control how you interact with the characters on screen. It’s almost as if they are in the room with you.
FREE THE NIPPLE
The Free the Nipple campaign advocated doing away with wearing bras, with a focus on exposing one’s nipples through clothing. This year, women embraced not conforming to what society expects them to look like.
MENSTRUAL CUPS
This one is not a sex trend, but is nevertheless related to our genitals. Although menstrual cups – also known as diva cups – aren’t new, they have gained popularity because of the tough economic times. They are convenient, mess free, odour free and reusable – which saves a lot of money on the monthly cost of tampons and sanitary towels. They are also environmentally friendly!
