Take a look at how South Africans spend their money

accreditation

From finding the perfect deal to stocking up on specials, there are some interesting ways South Africans are making their rand go further. In a recent survey, over 70% of the respondents said they’ll buy bulk when they find a good deal.

The survey, conducted by Game and hosted on W24, asked 1608 South Africans about their spending and saving habits and gathered some insightful feedback from the diverse range of respondents.

Maybe unsurprisingly, the results revealed that currently groceries are the top priority for South African household’s budgets, while make-up and beauty products take the backseat on monthly expenditure.

The survey also compared the differences in shopping behaviour between men and women. More men are in debt than women, according to the survey, but a majority of both male and female respondents try to save rather than spend during months when they can. Where men mostly rely on print leaflets to find good retail deals, women largely rely on social media and tips from friends when searching for deals.

“Game understands that the South African consumer is focused on making their money go further. This is why we focus on offering unbeatable deals on quality merchandise and offer our unique price beat promise. We have the consumer at the centre of everything we do, and this survey has assisted us in deepening our understanding of how our consumers look to spend, save and shop,” says Katherine Madley, VP of Marketing at Game.
