Book review: Carnal Innocence

accreditation

Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts (this paperback edition was first published in 2016 by Piatkus).

Carnal Innocence is classic Nora Roberts at its best.

Likeable characters, a strong theme of family and community, a pair of opposites who find love and,  to keep things interesting, someone from the town killing off their own.

World renowned violinist Caroline Waverly escapes her musical career and heartbreak and heads to the little town of Innocence where she plans to rest and recuperate. Her peace and quiet is disturbed when a dead body is discovered in the pond on her property.

It turns out to be the second mutilated corpse that has shown up in the local town. With a serial killer on the loose, the feds are called in.

Tucker Longstreet, son of one the founding members of the town, is at the top of the suspect list because of an affair gone bad with one of the victims. He is also Caroline’s neighbour, and after winning her over with his charm, she soon gives in. Despite their happiness the killer is still at large and closer to them than they had imagined.

This book is a real page turner, the characters and the plot are well put together and it will keep you guessing as to who the killer really is.

The deaths are brutal and graphic and I would not recommend it to sensitive readers. However, if you like your love stories with a bit of edge and mystery then you’ll definitely enjoy this book.
