Where are all the white people? On the cover of Vanity Fair

accreditation

The celebrated magazine has just released their 21st annual Hollywood Issue featuring, as always, the who’s who of Tinseltown, in the run-up to the Academy Awards. There’s only one issue I have here: there’s only one, yes one, black actor on it. ONE.

The much-talked about Vanity Fair cover features Channing Tatum, Amy Adams (who is precariously perched on Channing’s shoulder for some reason), Reese Witherspoon, Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo (can anyone say ‘token’?), Sienna Miller, Miles Teller, and Oscar Isaac.

I was rather disappointed in this year’s cover, especially after the 20th issue that featured 6 actors of colour. This in itself was actually ground-breaking, considering the past covers that have been whiter than the white on rice.

But I suppose the cover is really just a reflection of the Oscar nominations this year. Which, as Jezebel pointed out, is basically just a list of white dudes.
