This weekend, Angela Bassett was conferred with an honourary doctorate from the elite men's-only Morehouse College. This is her fourth degree and her second honourary doctorate. Just last year, she was honoured by her alma mater - Yale - with a doctorate in fine Arts.

According to Refinery29, Angela Bassett obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in African American Studies in 1980, followed by a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama in 1983.

The honourary doctorate is just the latest nod to her long list of successes and accolades. According to Essence magazine, this honour was for Angela Bassett’s leadership, service and excellence that set the bar high for women in Hollywood.

In 1994 she was awarded a Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a motion picture in What's Love Got To Do With It. This year, Black Panther was honoured with a SAG award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture and an NAACP image award for outstanding supporting actress for her role in the ER drama series, among a number of other awards and award nominations.

Where’s her Oscar, you ask? We’d also like to know.

She is currently starring in TV series 911, which has recently been renewed for a third season in 2020.

Angela Bassett’s accolades speak for themselves, and she brings the same excellence to the red carpet. Her best look right now is the academic gown that she clearly wears exceptionally well.
