The actress is fast building a reputation as a Hollywood talent after landing the roles of Tasha 'Taystee' Jefferson on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, and Sofia in the recent Broadway run of The Color Purple.
Danielle is a keen advocate for body positivity, having appeared in campaigns for Christian Siriano and plus-size retailer Lane Bryant, and admits she has finally taken ownership of her biggest body insecurity.
"I'm learning to love my love handles. For the longest time I hated them because I felt I couldn't wear certain outfits, and because I definitely did not see women in magazines showing them," she told Shape magazine. "But as time went on and I started to see women embracing their 'love handles' in commercials for brands like Lane Bryant, I realised it's normal and O.K. to own a pair myself."
Danielle's latest gig has been as one of the faces of Lane Bryant's new I'm No Angel lingerie campaign, starring alongside other curvy models such as Ashley Graham, Candice Huffine and Denise Bidot.
While the 28-year-old was worried that she looked a little "bloated" prior to the shoot, she was excited about the final result.
"For a lot of plus-size women, you don't see advertisements for yourself. That's why that representation really matters. When this commercial comes out people are going to be really excited because they're going to say, 'Oh, I can actually get that and I know where to shop for that,'" the brunette beauty added.
When it comes to staying in shape, Danielle works with trainer Morit Summers, and hits the gym three times a week for a varied regime involving strength training, cardio and 20 minutes on a stair-stepper.
