Born and bred in Limpopo up until the age of ten, Tiisetso is an energetic young man who’s in love with the African culture. The Isithembiso and The Herd actor says he’s all about different ethnic groups surrounding him; hence he’s bilingual and can speak 10 of Mzansi’s official languages.

Tell us about your decision to leave law to become an actor.

It was a very difficult choice because, at that time, my parents knew I love theatre even while I was still at school. I completed my studies, but it was during my training period that I realised law doesn’t make happy. That’s where I decided the law profession was not for me, even though I excelled in it. So I made the career change and I went into TV.

You were a child star and YoTV presenter but you say it wasn’t easy for you to get an acting gig. Why do you think that was, considering you had already started building a name for yourself on TV?

During my daunting journey from going to countless auditions, I began to think that TV is not for me.  I did presenting and loved it but I took a break because I didn’t want to be only known as that child star from YoTV. I wanted to do something different.

After quitting YoTV it became difficult finding an acting job, I spent four years unemployed and people suggested I continue with law but I didn’t because acting is my passion. I persevered and didn’t allow circumstances to derail me. My transition from presenting to acting was not easy.

You’ve been on Isithembiso, Nkululeko and now you’re on The Herd. Which role has been your highlight thus far?

It’s quite difficult to choose. However, I’d say The Herd because it actually put me on the map. The second one is Isithembiso because it gave me a platform. After appearing on the show, doors started to open up for me.

You’re a Fitness Enthusiast, what’s the best advice you’d give to anyone trying to get fit this spring?

If you want to be fit and live a healthy lifestyle, you should not compete with anyone. The best thing to do is use something natural, there’s so much protein that you can use that’s natural and food you can eat, which will help supplement your body to grow.

Tiisetso’s fitness tips:

·      Wake up every single morning and go to the gym.

·      Know your goal

·      Eat healthy

You’re a father-of-one, what’s the best thing about being a parent?

I have a three-year-old daughter. The best thing about being a parent for me are those special moments — when she was born, started to crawl, when she took her first baby steps, when she uttered her first words, learning how to speak and her calling me daddy.

I’ll admit I’m too attached to her — she’s daddy’s little girl (he chuckles).

What is your wish for your career?

My wish right now is to go international. I want to see myself working with phenomenal actors whom I’ve always wished to work with, the likes of Samuel L Jackson.
