If you’ve ever dreamt of being a millionaire? What about becoming Miss South Africa? Well next year, you can kill two birds with one stone by winning the pageant.

The winner of the 2017 pageant - who will be crowned at Sun City at the end of March 2017 - will receive R1 million in cash from the sponsors at Sun International and Cell C plus an array of prizes. This now makes Miss SA one of the “richest” pageants in the world.

“There is no better way of empowering a woman than making her financially independent."

So what exactly is included in the prize for Miss SA? Well, there’s the cash, a car, an international holiday and other prizes in a package worth over R2 million.

The 12 finalists will also each receive a R25 000 cash prize.

We asked current Miss South Africa, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, what she thinks of this amazing prize and how it will empower the young women who choose to take part: “There is no  better way of empowering a woman than making her financially independent.  Looking at the calibre of women that Miss South Africa attracts the money will assist the winner in venturing into something that will begin the journey of independence.”

The search is already on for those who want to follow in Ntando’s footsteps. And for the first time ever a part of the auditions will be open to members of the public to take place at Sun International properties around the country. The current Miss South Africa will also be attending all the auditions.

Claudia Henkel, PR Executive and former Miss SA, says she has seen some incredible growth from the young women who want to be a part of the pageant and is happy to see them share the kindness with other women like them: “As the PR Executive for Miss SA I have witnessed the contestants grow as young women, with our extensive workshops, events and opportunities that  we offer to them they are more confident and ambitious.

“This is incredibly rewarding to witness as not only does the winner’s life change forever but we create a platform that benefit a group of young women. They then pay it forward and can be role models for other young women they meet.”

I know I wouldn’t mind R1 million and the chance to be one of the most glamourous women in the country, would you?
