Would you take a personality test to find out who you should date?

Have you ever wondered why sometimes you have absolutely nothing in common with people of the same star sign? Well, according to Nicole Balona of Alchemy 247, the secret is in your date of birth.

Nicole did a profile on me using my date of birth and an estimate of the time I was born and worked out an entire personality profile on me so I could figure out who exactly I am and the kind of person I would be keen to date. 

So how exactly does this work? 

“There are five personal planets that have an effect on who you are, and each have a unique function. Depending on your date of your birth they will express their unique qualities in the particular sign of the zodiac that they are positioned,” says Nicole. 

“Imagine an empty shell of a person, and then add ego [Sun], and they’ll react in a certain way. Then we add emotion [Moon], followed by thinking and communication [Mercury], a value system and a manner in which they give and receive love [Venus], and finally [Mars], a way to express drive. This all comes together to form a definable character with certain distinguishable qualities that make them unique. It’s these five layers that effect your personality.”

So there are five layers to your personality that are affected by different planets and make up who you are. These are: 

Ego

The sun is your ego. This governs your self-esteem and how you see yourself and how others see you. The sun rules your will, your pride, your determination, your heart, health and vitality, the recognition you receive for work well done, your sense of purpose, and motivation for future goals. 

Emotions

The moon drives your deepest feelings, the fine-tuning of your character, your instinct and intuition, your emotions, and your reactions. The moon also rules your private life, especially your home. 

Communication

Mercury rules perception, language, writing, editing, research, speaking, all kinds of learning experiences and learning styles and the assessment of data. Its placement in a sign determines your intellectual style. The way we give and receive information. It facilitates self-transformation by self-knowledge and understanding.

Values

How we give and receive love. Venus governs, your affections, your heart, love life, and your pleasures, including gifts, beauty, fashion, adornment, and art. A feminine planet, never aggressive, gets her way by charm. 

Drive

Your drive, how you exert your will. Mars represents the energy and drive of a person, their courage, determination, the freedom of spontaneous impulse.  It also describes the readiness for action, the way one goes about doing things as well as simple aggression. 

What did I learn from my profile?

I already knew a lot of the things about myself that came up in the profile, but then there were other things that came up where I thought “huh, I never realised that, but it’s true”. 

Things like the fact that I’m very diplomatic and am always the peacemaker rang true, but other things like the fact that I like getting and giving affection is so true, but I only really properly realised this about myself once it was pointed out to me. 

All of this information made me really think about who I am and what I present to the world and how all the qualities I have can be seen by someone else, especially someone I would date. 

So how does this information help you?

All this information helps you figure out who you really are and what you might want from people around you – and of course it could help you figure out what you want in a partner. Getting a profile done for both yourself and your partner could also be beneficial so you can figure out things like your communications styles and all those little quirks that make up the other person and how you differ and should respond to that. 

“If your communication style is detail focused, and you provide loads of information when asked a question, your significant other might not respond in the same way. You might experience that person as being indifferent, but for them, less is more,” says Nicole.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that one of you is wrong or that your combination isn’t good, but merely that you need to better understand the combination of characteristics that makes your partner tick and how you should respond to that. “They’re still that amazing person you met at the party, and even though they have a minimalistic communication style, they might be a very physically affectionate person. There are no wrong combinations, some just appear to be more challenging,” says Nicole. 

Remember that all these different layers make up who you are and that while you and your partner may have the same star sign or similar backgrounds doesn’t mean that you’re always going to be on the same age about everything.
