Can't leave the office this Mandela Day? Here's how to give back online

The festivities to celebrate the life and work of our beloved Madiba started today with the 16th Nelson Mandela Lecture, in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where esteemed guests including Barack Obama and Mandela's wife, Graça Machel spoke to a large crowd and many watching around the globe.

In 2014, News24 reported that Julius Malema said that one should not just volunteer on Mandela Day, but every day. Speaking in Sepedi he said, "Go and clean old age homes. Not just tomorrow 'cause it's Mandela Day."

Taking action against poverty should be an everyday endeavour for us all. #ActionAgainstPoverty has moved into the digital space. 

If you can't leave work to help out at one of these local charities, then go online and give your 67 minutes or more: 

  • Visit Forgood.co.za, a portal that connects charities with people where you can donate time, goods or services all online. 
  • Help those with disabilities by visiting chaelicampaign.co.za. The Chaeli Campaign is dedicated to helping meet the mobility and educational needs.
