Up-to-date
When you make the time to look over all the books that have been stuffed into those shelves or are now outdated, the first tip is this: bring the bookshelf up-to-date. This is a simple process to undergo. Really get to know the books you have. Look at their condition and their relevance. We often keep books either because of their narratives, information or sentiment. If it doesn't make an impact, it’s time to say your goodbyes.
Declutter
Following this, you need to declutter. Are you really going to re-read every book again? If you start refining your collection, you’ll end up finding books, letters and documents you even forgot were on the shelf.
Change up the sequence
Did you catch on to the trend that required a neat bookcase for attraction instead of finding your own organising trend? Play around with colour, genre and size. You’ll notice how the bookshelf will start forming as a highlighted piece in the room.
Keep the display open for the new
Try not to leave too many books on your bookshelf. You don't want it to look overdone. Leave space for intricate vignettes and accessories, niche art or family photos. It'll add a level of confidence and texture to an area that a bookcase full of books just can't always do.
Consider a change of space
If you’re taking all the books off the bookshelf, why not consider moving it to a more visible space? This doesn’t mean you have to rearrange all the furniture in a room, but even a slight move will change the focus of the room, creating a new inspired look.
